Cast Paper Pieces
This new work falls into my category of "I don't know what the hell I'm doing." I venture into this territory when (a) I've said everything I can possibly say about a line I've peen pursuing (usually for years) or (b) I think it would be good for me to learn something new and not rest on any laurels I think I might have earned. So ... these are the results, so far of a two month journey into paper making, which started out in the usual way .eg blending pulp, deckle, pressing etc. resulting in something that looked like every hobbyist woman (yeah I know, freakin sexist) who makes little flowery thank you notes and the like. But here's the thing ... one can learn much that is fine-art-useful from these hobbyists. What I have settled on seems to be a totally different, albeit time consuming method of shaping the pulp by hand and manipulating it onto a flat surface where, impatient though I am, I just have to wait out the drying for weeks until I can lift it, paint it and add whatever elements I need to turn it into a useless art object that can, in fact, not be turned into a damned thank you note.
